I haven't been feeling useless, and I like to give myself a pat on the back from time to time for it because that's a big accomplishment for me.
I'm pretty optimistic about life, but I've discovered over the last few years (and three therapy sessions) that this 'life-is-going-to-be-okay' mentality partially comes from me not wanting to lose control of myself in public.
(*most of that mentality comes from growing up in the church and having faith that everyone and every situation is still in God's hands ◡̈ )
There are SO many motivational YouTube videos, books, Instagram posts, newsletters, etc. and probably the only thing I've taken away from them is:
HAVING A DAILY ROUTINE HELPS
So here is a very short list of things I do every day to keep myself healthy that YOU can also do!
1. Make my bed as SOON as I wake up. A clean room makes me feel SO GOOD.
2. Gargle with salt water when I wake up and before I sleep. It does sound gross and questionable but it helps you with your sore throat, maintains your pH level, benefits your oral and gum health, etc. Read about it here.
3. FLOSS. FLOSS. FLOSS. If you don't know why you should floss, please DM me on instagram ASAP.
4. Take the stairs if my destination is less than 3 floors up or down. You'll learn to love the burn in your legs but remember not to slouch!
5. If you're 25+ years old, take your vitamins.
6. Moisturize and put on sunscreen.
7. Use a foam roller to massage my legs before I sleep. This is my favorite video for this routine.
8. Read my book & Bible before bed. I'm currently reading 거인의 노트 [The Notes of a Giant] by 김익한 (Ik-han Kim) and it is tearing me apart and pushing me to be better at thinking.
You can keep your list of things to do in your REMINDERS app on your iPhone!
I do this and set the time (date for daily) and it gives me a little ping! so I can complete the task and cross it off the list. As a POWER J (aka MBTI: ENFJ) crossing things off to-do lists makes me feel like I'm doing the whole life thing pretty well ◡̈
BTW, can you see how I didn't put 'drink water' in the list? I'm terrible at remembering to drink water. Having that on the list and not being able to do it would just bring me down. So, I just try to remember to drink water when I can and I feel good about it. If I forget, that's okay for my mental health (probably not for my physical health) because it won't make me feel like trash at the end of the day ◡̈
That's my list! If you have your own 'how to feel useful' list, feel free to comment below. Maybe I'll give it a try and add it to my list!
